We turned up to a lovely venue on a lovely sunny day with a squad of 9- Alisdair, Ronnie, Nicholas, Stan, Dylan, James, Reuben, George and Noah.
We were entered into a very competitive group with Keynsham, Lansdown and Charlton Kings. First match we came up against Charlton Kings, this was a very competitive match and our opening pair got off to a great start with Dylan and Noah both hitting boundaries. We continued at a steady rate until the last two overs when James and Reuben smashed 29 off their 12 balls. We finished on 247.
In reply, Charlton Kings looked steady but Alisdair picked up a good early wicket with a catch behind and Noah a few overs later bowled the perfect delivery- top of off stump to help keep the runs down. Charlton Kings got close in the last over but some excellent boundary fielding from Dylan and James Meech restricted them to 240. First match won by 7 runs!
Our second match was against the hosts and the favourites Keysham. Their bowling was absolutely pin point accurate and our lads struggled to score the vital boundaries required! We finished on 220.
Our defence of a low total started well with some good bowling. Keynsham lost a few wickets with Stan and Nicholas showing some great fielding skills. Keynsham finished on 249. This was an important match for the boys to see how to do the basics well such as running between the wickets.
Our third and final match saw us take on Lansdown. These narrowly lost to Keynsham so we knew it was going to be a tricky game. We bowled the best we have bowled all day and it was great to see both George and Ronnie pick up with wickets with tight bowling. Dylan's fielding was fantastic on the boundary and saved some vital runs. Lansdown finished on 239.
In reply we started very well against some fantastic bowling with some brilliant batting from Noah and Dylan. Noah crashed a 4 over extra cover. We went into the final two overs needing 16 and in came James and Alasdair. Both set out running well and James Meech smashed a fantastic 4 on the leg side. Scores were tied on the last ball and Alasdair managed to squeeze the ball into a gap for two runs to claim our second victory.
A fantastic day out and a great opportunity for the lads to play some matches at a fantastic venue. winning two out of three matches was a bonus!
