Squad – Laurie, James E, Arian, Will B, Luke C, George G, Chayse, Tikia, Ella W, Danielle, Matthew L, Sid S

St Ursula’s took a strong squad to the year 5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament at Avonmouth RFC on Thursday. Our group was made up of 6 teams with the top 2 qualifying for the semi-finals. Our first game was against St Johns and we equalised with the last play of the game as Luke went over in the corner. It was a nervy start from St Ursula’s as we got used to the rules and how we would go about scoring a try.

In our next game we played a very strong Westbury-On-Trym team and we rode our luck to win 2-1. George scored a breakaway try before scoring his 2nd after good build up play from Laurie. We won our 3rd game 4-0 against St Teresa’s with Will showing good pace to score twice, Sid nipping down the wing to touch down in the corner and Arian with good awareness to make it 4.

We came unstuck in our next match as a strong Elmlea team beat us 4-1, Laurie with our only try but we bounced back in our final game to beat Bishop Road with a last minute try from Luke who completed his hat trick after scoring the 2 before that.

So we were hoping that 3 wins, a draw and a defeat would be enough to see us go through as runners up but sadly WOT beat Elmlea in their last game meaning that they went through ahead of us. Still, it was a brilliant performance from the boys and girls who represented themselves and the school brilliantly.
