The u12 Pumas took on Bath in a really enjoyable game despite the cold conditions. Both sets of girls put in a tremendous amount of effort and tried their absolute best to put on a great performance for all the parents and supporters.
The game got off to a really great start with both keepers making brilliant saves. The cold didn’t make it an easy day for the goalkeepers so everyone who volunteered to have a go did an amazing job. After about 15 minutes Poppy finally got the breakthrough with a really well hit strike into the top right hand corner of the goal. Thalia then did her best to encourage her to knee slide in celebration, which Poppy politely declined seeing as the ground was almost solid. Around 5 minutes later the Bath no.7 dazzled her way through the defence and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner making it one-a-piece with a truly brilliant goal.
Another goal from Poppy with an excellent finish from a tight angle made it 2-1 before the Bath no.7 scored her second of the game with a confident strike into the back of the net just before half-time. Thalia also put the ball in the back of the net in the first half after a superb cross into the middle from Freya, however she was just offside so the score stayed at 2-2 going into the second half.
As the second half began a look of confusion appeared on the faces of the parents as the scorer of both of Bath’s goals appeared to be strapping on the goalie gloves. Nevertheless the game restarted and the pumas started strongly once again with some well worked passing moves. The dominance showed as they put 3 more into the back of the net. Goals from freya, a brilliant run showing her pace down the right hand side before rifling the ball home, and Thalia, who got to perform her trademark knee slide once again. The fifth and final goal came from Poppy who rounded off a superb hat-trick with a neat finish.
Credit to the Bath girls as they kept going right until the last whistle and eventually broke through the pumas defence, who had been so solid all game, and scored a third goal.
An excellent performance from the u12 pumas who thoroughly deserved the 5-3 win in a good contest against a brilliant Bath side.
Most importantly, all the girls came off the pitch with big smiles on their faces.
